I love the dripping rain
making music in my ears
I wish it would fill me up
and wash away my fears
I'd love to forget the mugging
that happened just yards
from my front door
I wish someone could tell me
that it won't happen anymore
But I know that isn't true
when living in this city scape
and all that's in my power
is to keep myself
from filling up with hate

ugh. that happens...and even if it does not happen to us, the fear can limit us if we let it...and the hate can def take over as well...quelching the love in our hearts....
ReplyDeleteOh, I know, Brian. It's a tough to let go of the fear. I'm working on it though. I appreciate your comment :)
DeleteI think it would be very hard if a mugging happened so close. A person does not want to be fearful, but one can't help thinking that if it happened once what is to prevent it from happening again. I appreciate the honesty in your poem!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Mary. This happened fairly recently and it has been tough to shake off. One day at a time, I guess :)
DeleteThat is so scary to live with… I'm glad the music of rain is a comfort.
ReplyDeleteYes, there's always some comfort to be found. Thank you for making a visit, Laura :)
Deletecrispy.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visit :)
DeleteOh scary when it happens close to your home - homes are our sanctuaries. I try to put a protective cone of light around me at such times. So far, it works. Stay safe, Torie.
ReplyDeleteI think that in some way I try to do the same, Sherry! I guess you just never know when something like this will happen. Looks like I'll have to stay more vigilant! Thank you for your words :)
DeleteYes, sometimes that is all that is in our power ... and that's a lot. I like the nursery rhyme like beginning here that quickly gets to the blood and its aftermath.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do agree, Susan. It is a lot. Thank you so much for coming by and taking the time to comment. It's good to see you :)
DeleteThere are aspects of urban life that goes against our feeling of security. That moment of feeling vulnerable.. Ouch.
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed! I think the key thing is to be really aware of your surroundings. Sometimes that can be challenging, but it's important. Thank you, Bjorn!
DeleteYes..sometimes we can't change things only how we look at it..sadly...thoughtful poem
ReplyDeleteThat is so true, Jae Rose! Our perspective can change everything!
Deleteit's so sad that one can't live in peace...so suffocating..take care and stay safe...love the music of rain Torie :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Sumana :) It's quite an awakening. Writing always helps :)
