What will I
write about today
Protesters
are being compared
to terrorists
without hearing
a single word
that they say
Let's just spray them
all away
Then everything
can go back
to being
A-OK
What are you
gonna do
When a person has
a different point of view
from you
Why don't you grab your
pitchfork and gun
Really show 'em
how it's done
'round here
If you don't
agree with me
The man
will lock you up
and throw away
the key
Being different
is just wrong
That's what
they've wanted us
to believe
all along
That fat old book
they'll wave
in your face
Never mind
that they're not really
living from grace
You're different
and dripping
with sin
Who needs compassion
when everyone's
fighting
to win
-August 2015
There are indeed two sides to this. It's now left to decide who is right, who is wrong.
ReplyDeleteThat's the thing though. Too many are focused on the right and wrong of things. Acceptance and compassion. That's what we as a human race need. Good to see you, Vandana. I like your response very much!
DeleteA thought-provoking poem, my friend........so true, protests quelled without the voices being heard - a dangerous tendency. I like the meter of this poem..it really works.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Sherry. So many things happening these days. I wish we listened to each other more. Thanks you for your visit :)
Deletethough sometimes freedom is prone to abuse - one's opinion / ideologies should be heard first.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree. Thanks for coming by, totomai!
Deletepower and intolerance go hand in hand...the present malady of the world...sigh...nicely expressed...
ReplyDeleteThank you so very much, Sumana :)
Deleteit is increasingly becoming an "us or them" world.
ReplyDeletei like how your poem builds up, the emotional feel getting stronger as it progresses. :)
Sadly, that's true. "They" want us divided. They get richer that way. If only we could all stand together. Now that would be a change I'd love to be around for. Thank you for your comment :)
DeleteFighting to win.. really the opposite of listening.. Love the sentiment, I might disagree with what they say, but as long as it's a protest we should be fine.
ReplyDeleteYep, listening is key! Thanks for the visit, Bjorn! Glad to see you :)
DeleteWell expressed... and I don't know what to make of all that "crap" people do in the name of ... I can't even think of a "Name" to call what they believe in anymore :-(
ReplyDeleteZQ
I'm right there with you, ZQ. So sad.
DeleteI love the flow of this poem.. its voice becomes stronger with each verse.. and such a powerful message too.
ReplyDeleteLots of love,
Sanaa
Thanks for your comment, Sanaa :)
DeleteUs and them is a very strong topic. Great poem.
ReplyDeleteIndeed it is. Thank you, GL.
DeleteWhew, this is a stunning poem, Torie. You wrote strongly with passion. Sad that fighting to win so often overpowers compassion in this day and age.
ReplyDeleteThank you for you kind words, Mary :) It's often sad when the need for power and being right trumps compassion and understanding.
