While I Grow

I'm too sensitive
for the blunt force
of your stick

I won't
harden my shell
to make it thick

I watch
as you try to
bleed me dry

But I have fists
resting
in my veins

You won't
burn me out
or use red
to paint my name

The truth
you think
you know
makes me
run wild
beneath the moon's
yellow glow

And it's there
where you can watch
while I grow
and grow
and grow

  2. I don't think anyone should be given the power to bleed someone dry. Keeping those 'fists' is important. I like the last stanza. Yes, grow and grow and grow!

  6. Torie, i am not too sure if this poem is about being rebellious, but i believe a person should have their own space to grow. just like you said in the last strophe of your poem.

  7. there is a sense of waiting for later in the poem but no evidence of turning the tables - just the will not to allow "red/to paint my name" - a thought-provoking piece of marvellous poetry

  11. Amen! Grow! I don't know if the beating is physical or mental, but rendering it ineffective is the best way past. (Unfortunately, terrorists and defenders know this, equally.)
