I close my eyes
and watch the river
bend beneath
my feet
I hope and pray
that the homeless man
finds someplace
warm enough
to sleep
Because it's cold outside
tonight
and as the waves
wash through me
I still know
what feels
wrong
and what feels
right
We hurt each other
out of selfishness
If only
we'd been taught
to follow our bliss
Then we'd find
our true road
to happiness
Oh, it's cold outside
tonight
Living in this world
shouldn't be
such a
fight
Because there's no one
winning
on either side
Oh, it's cold outside
tonight
-December 2014
I watched the tv the other day and saw a commercial stating that there are 2. something million veterans who are homeless, and it saddened me that there are that many. What kind of world do we live in where nobody looks after one another. When did money become something that controls the life of someone else. Why can't we just live in a utopia where everyone has everyone's back. Wishes for the new year I guess.
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with ya, Kenn. I've asked myself these very same questions. I hope that at some point humanity gains more compassion and empathy.
DeleteThank you for your visit. And also thank you for such an honest comment. It's nice to find like minded folks ;)
Yes it really is nice to find like minded people.
DeleteSo beautiful composition and a lovely meaning that we should all follow and listen to.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Vandana :)
Deletehappy 2015
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you as well :)
DeleteIt's cold outside and I hope the homeless man finds a shelter to keep him warm..such a sad reality for so many in the world. This pierces the heart.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment and for you visit, Trudessa!
DeleteI think you have given good examples of two different kinds of 'cold.' One the physical cold that the homeless feels and the other the 'cold'-heartedness of hurting one another out of selfishness. I like the way you have woven both themes together. Happy New Year, Torie.
ReplyDeleteYes, thank you, Mary! Good to see you in this new year ;)
DeleteThank you, Loredana. Happy New Year to you, too :)
ReplyDeleteCold.. yes somehow we let that cold impregnate us.. and looking away and not seeing is the first step...
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visit, Bjorn!
DeleteI love the repetition of "oh, it's cold out there tonight".........it is nice that you think of the homeless at such a time, when many brush such uncomfortable thoughts away.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sherry. I wrote this after spending the day in San Francisco, where the homeless are hardly scarce.
DeleteExcellent Snap shot of life!
