What Do You Need Me For? (My Ode To The Universe)

I don't usually write notes to go along with my poems, but this is something I'm in the middle of working on. It's sort of a long one, so bare with me.

What Do You Need Me For? (My Ode To The Universe)

You don't have to
look at me
But if you do
would you mind telling me
what it is
you see
Because I don't see
Anything
Anymore
Sometimes I wonder
what keeps me
From running out
running out
your front door
Oh, what do you
what do you
want me for?

I've tried to
close my eyes
Sometimes I hate to see
the sun rise
It just reminds me that
there's another day
I don't want to keep feeling
like I'm fading away
Sometimes I think I'll do
Anything
Anything
to keep it all
inside
and I'll hide my hands
behind

My back
I promise I won't lose track
of what you say
to me
As long as you tell me
what it is that you see
Because I'm losing sight of
Everything
Everything
used to be
so damn pretty
Maybe that was just
make believe

So I'm standing here
at your door
I promise I'll stay
if you tell me
what you need
What do you need
me for?

  3. These words can explain my life, the life I have chosen to live. As many have stood in that same moment wondering why...... your words brought a tear to my eye. you know who this is as we speak almost every day I am happy that I dont see this person inside you any more but for me its like looking in a distant reflection of who I once was but am lost now trying to find my way. Love you lots miss you more. wish I could have been there yesterday.

    1. I believe that we can all find our way. We just have to keep searching and trusting where our hearts lead us.

  5. I do understand the feeling of fading away; and I understand the questioning. Sometimes we really just wonder about the reasons for everything. Torie, your poem is well expressed. I am glad you are part of Poets United.
