Do you ever
close your eyes
long enough
to dream
you know,
this awful world
isn't as awful
as it seems
Each time I think
you've learned
from your
mistakes
There you go
multiplying promises
until the last one
breaks
I watch
the pieces shatter
and splinter
in my bones
and all the words
that you say
don't mean
anything
anymore

Breaking promises.. For some it seems like a habit it's hard to get out of.
ReplyDeleteSo true, Bjorn. Thank you for your visit!
DeleteI do wonder oftentimes why someone would continually promise what they know they cannot fulfill.
ReplyDeleteI think that's an unsolved mystery! I never truly think it's done intentionally though. Good to see you, Mary :)
DeleteAt least the narrator knows the pattern and can strengthen herself to withstand the disappointment. Sigh. I love the repeated "this world is not as bad as it seems." It surely isnt, Torie. We walk in wonder.
ReplyDeleteOr is it the wonder that makes us walk? Hmmm . . . quite a thought, don't you think? So wonderful to see you, Sherry, as always :) :)
DeleteSuch disappointment and anger when promises are continually broken...
ReplyDelete'and all the words that you say don't mean anything anymore'
very true!
Thank you for your visit, Donna! Nice to see you :)
Deleteinteresting write... held me
ReplyDeleteZQ
Thank you so much, ZQ!!
DeleteThe secret is not to expect too much to start of with and then hopefully be pleased with what is offered. Mr or Miss Right don't grow on trees but have to be searched for and tested first!
ReplyDeleteYou're very right, oldegg. It's good to see you :) Thanks so much for stopping by!
DeleteBreaking promises is hard on both sides, try not to make them.
ReplyDeletePromises can wreak havoc sometimes. While some promises are kept, many disappear into thin air. I started out writing this about one specific person, then as I continued to write, a few more came to the surface. Thank you for you for your visit, G L. Good to see you :)
