I didn't plan on you
today
I thought I could just look
the other
way
and continue
to feel
free
for a minute there
I felt like I was just
me
I guess I didn't know
how to accept
that this is me
now
when the truth is
this has been me
I just didn't see it
somehow
It's not an everyday struggle
anymore
but some days
when I turn that knob
it's you
standing at my
door
and I want to slam it
and lock it up
tight
sometimes I can't
find the courage
to stand alone and
fight
and I wonder
if that's
okay
because there's just times
when I don't want
to cry
today
no, I don't want
to cry
today
I say
as the tears
start rolling
down
and my breathing
becomes
the only
sound
no, I didn't want
to cry
today
but if I let it out now
perhaps tomorrow
will be
a better
day

At times its necessary to let out the deep seated emotions and make the heart feel light and indeed the next day is better.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed. Today is already better. Thank you for your visit, Vandana :)
DeleteSometimes tears do help. I really think that one often needs a way to let out the negatives or the pain in one's life.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Mary. Thank you :)
DeleteYes, some days the tears must fall for all that has befallen us - but then the next day will be better!
ReplyDeleteI'm finding this to be true as time goes by. Thanks for making a visit, Sherry :)
DeleteI think telling the tears to stop makes them come just more.. it's hard to break new roads.. great use of subtle changes through the progression of your poem.

DeleteEven as a guy, I've had times when crying was the only way to heal. Despite the sadness, I enjoyed the flow and honesty of this poem.
